DARIO RACCARO

The Raccaro family can look back on almost a hundred years of history in Collio. In 1928, Giuseppe Raccaro, having returned from time spent in America, settled in the fertile hills of the Collio in an old stone house at the foot of Monte Quarin, near the church of Santa Maria. It was here in the wonderful ‘ponca’ soil of Collio that Giuseppe planted some of the vineyards that his grandson, Dario, tends today.

Dario took over the winery in 1984, converting to organic farming, becoming less interventionalist, and focusing on quality over quantity. With each generation has come renewed interest, learnings and commitment to producing wine of the purest expression of terroir. Following his father and grandfather before him, Dario is now at the helm alongside his sons Paolo, viticulturist, and Luca, oenologist.

The Raccaro Friulano and Malvasia are some of the best white wines in all of Italy, even the world, and have garnered more awards than we can list here. The cru del Rolàt, the single vineyard from which the Friulano is sourced, was planted in the 900s..yes, over 1100 years ago. It is considered the ‘grand cru’ for Friulano. “The best Friulano amongst Friulani,” according to the legendary Livio Felluga. These are wines of richness and concentration; textured, deep, and layered; elegant and lifted. Unfined and unfiltered, no oak. An unmatched minerality and vibrancy meet an incredible purity of fruit here. World-class wines.
