DOMAINE DE LA FOLIE

The Chagnotins (the people of Chagny) say that since time immemorial, the fairies have met to dance in this place, which is what gives the delightful name of “Folie” to this Domaine.
And they are right, because the estate, perched on top of Montagne de la Folie, surrounded by vineyards and boxwood shrubland, offers a magical view of the Côte de Beaune.

The Noël-Bouton family has owned this estate for three centuries, and though the Domaine has enjoyed fame for its wines in the past, it is today creating quite a buzz. Located in the Rully appellation of the Côte Châlonnaise, La Folie is the northernmost domaine in the AOC - with vines that share the limestone bed found in Puligny-Montrachet and feature the highest elevation sites in Rully. All but one of the Domaine’s vineyards are monopoles, quite a rare thing in the vineyard-patchwork that is Burgundy.

Run today by Clémence and Baptiste Dubrulle, who spearheaded a winemaking renaissance at the Domaine when they took over in 2010, La Folie’s white wines are full of minerality, displaying great elegance, richness, and depth. This is a storied Domaine with a long history and special wines that seemingly and improbably improve with each vintage.

These are splendid, intermittently brilliant, wines that punch well above their weight. Classically styled, their whites seem to emit a bit of sunshine, even on an overcast October afternoon. And that Rully Clos Saint-Jacques is an absolute stunner that begs to be partnered with its Gevrey namesake
